Water Based Training
Water based training takes place at the weekends, from Canford School BC on a stretch of the river Stour. Outing times are allotted for each squad to ensure that they run smoothly and no clashes occur. The senior men and women will typically begin their outings at 7:30am, whilst the novice men and women begin at 9am.

The strech of the river Stour used is about 1,500 metres in length. The senior men and women will typically complete five or six round trips of the river each outing, with the novice men and women completing approximately three or four.

As the spring and summer seasons arrive the senior men and women's squads take advantage of the improving weather and light, swapping weekday evening land training sessions for water outings. This increases the number outings on the water to four or more a week.
Land Based Training
Land based training sessions are conducted on weekday evenings during the winter months. All squads are encouraged to attend a running and a circuits session in order to improve fitness through the winter season. The senior men and women have further training sessions during the week, including weights and ergometer sessions.
Spring Training Camp
In the build up to BUSA there is an opportunity for all members of the club to attend a spring training camp. For the past few years this has been held at Peterborough City Rowing Club, about a month before BUSA. This has become a crucial period as it allows all squads to gain vital time on the water before the regatta season begins in earnest. Senior men and women will complete three sessions each day, with the novice men and women completing two. Sessions are spilt roughly in half between using the 1,000m regatta lake and long outings on the river Nene.
